About Sgt Tony Ryan

Tony Ryan I run my own sales consulting company, so can manage my time effectively to allow me some time to do my research during the day, but most of my horse racing study is done the night before. I have been following the horses for about 25 years or so, and got into laying horses about 2 or 3 years back. I now prefer to lay horses rather than back them! That said, I do still like to back horses and was intrigued by the JCA system. I love looking at systems and can usually spot the bad ones fairly quickly. I often use several different systems to come up with a short list of selections and then try to use my own judgement, experience and finally that 'gut feeling' to make my final selection for any race. I learnt quite a while back that you cannot lose money if you do not place a bet (back or lay) so use that as my final guide if the 'gut feeling' is not quite right.

Planet Horseracing – Day 72

Hi Bloggers

One more selection today (Friday 10th September):

Chester 17:50 – Downhill Skier

Competitive looking Amateur Handicap sees Selection as likely favourite after recent good 2nd at Warwick. There are however, a few negatives that mean we can look to oppose him. Untried at Chester so suitability of this very sharp course is unknown. Carries 10st 10lbs today (given the race type) but all but 1 of his wins have been when carry 9st or less. Trainer’s record in these races here is below average and favourites have a low strike rate in 4YO+ handicaps at the course.

The selection certainly went ‘downhill’ for us, coming in third of the ten runners at a Betfair SP of 6.84 (ISP 5/1). That gave us a profit for the day of £38.00 or 0.95 of a point at level stakes. Our cumulative bank now stands at £2,016.00 bringing us back into profit by £16.00 or 0.38 of a point.

Who is going to win the St. Leger tomorrow? Whatever the result, have a great weekend.

Kind regards

Tony

Planet Horseracing – Day 71

Hi Bloggers

No selections today (Thursday, 9 September) but here are the author Martin’s comments on yesterday’s selection:

Selection : Epic

Was fairly stable throughout the day (I managed to get most of my Lay at 3.9 – 4.0) but drifted in the 15 minutes near the off. Opened up as 11/4 on course favourite but drifted to 7/2 (Betfair SP 5.15).

Was always up with the pace but didn’t always look comfortable on the track as jockey was niggling at him from a long way out and he traded as high as 10.50 in running. Unfortunately an enterprising ride from K Fallon meant he bagged the rail off of Tattenham Corner and got first run on the slightly better ground, leaving his chief rival with nowhere to go. Went on to win by a comfortable 1 & 1/4 lengths. In fairness he may have won anyway but the great ride sealed it.

A replay of the race is here : http://www.chroma.premiumtv.co.uk/streaming/watch/RacingUKFlashVOD/partnerId_166/videoFileId

Kind regards

Tony

Planet Horseracing – Day 70

Hi Bloggers

Another selection today:

Epsom 15:20 – Epic

A winner of 3 of his last 4 races and with the services of K Fallon, this Mark Johnston gelding is forecast favourite. There are, however, a few negatives that mean he can be opposed. His wins have all come in class 5 & 6 races and his last 6 attempts at this level have seen him not reach the frame. Only previous outing at Epsom saw him finish 6th (accepted that was his racecourse debut) so suitability of this unique track is unknown. His Official Rating of 80 is now at a career high. Trainer’s strike rate in this age group at the track is low and jockey has never ridden him before. The race looks fairly open.

Well, I have to accept part of the blame by saying that we were on for our tenth winning lay! The selection duly proved me wrong and came in first of the seven runners at a Betfair SP of 5.15 (ISP 7/2).

That gave us a loss for the day of -£166.00 or -4.15 points at level stakes (ouch!). Our cumulative bank has just dropped into the red with a balance of £1,978.00 giving us a loss to date of -£22.00 or -0.55 of a point at level stakes.

Let’s hope for a return to good fortunes tomorrow.

Kind regards

Tony

Planet Horseracing – Day 68

Hi Bloggers

There are no selections today, so we will be kept in suspense for a while looking for that tenth consecutive successful lay.

Planet Horseracing – Day 67

Hi Bloggers

We had another selection today (Sunday 5th September):

York 17:20 – Mistoffelees

Recent good runs see Luca Cumani’s colt as forecast favourite here. There are however, a few negatives that mean he can be opposed. Upped in Class today, he takes on proven performers at this level. Never run at York so course suitability is unknown. Official Rating is now up to 78 which is a 5lb rise for a 1 & 1/4 length win. Trainers record in this age group here is average but favourites in 4YO+ handicaps at the track have a low strike rate.

Despite all the hype, the selection must have had an off day. Even though it went off as the favourite, it came in 14th of the 14 runners at a Betfair SP of 4.51 (ISP 3/1). That gave us a profit for the day of £38.00 or 0.95 of a point at level stakes. Our cumulative bank now stands at £2,144.00 giving us a profit to date of £144.00 or 3.60 points at level stakes.

I am, no doubt, in danger of tempting fate by noting that this is the ninth successful lay in a row for the system, so I look forward to celebrating the tenth one! I have already heard from the author that there are no selections for tomorrow, Monday, so we will have to wait a while for our tenth lay success.

Kind regards

Tony

Planet Horseracing – Day 66

Hi Bloggers

No selections today, but here is an update from the author of the system, Martin:

“No Selections today despite a couple coming close to inclusion. A more comfortable couple of weeks with 6/6 Winning Lays following the tough 4 weeks we had before that. Betfair prices were still a bit high on a couple of occasions though, despite us getting 4 favourites, a 2nd favourite and an 11/2 shot. A good example was our Winning Lay on 1st September (Bramshaw) which had an Industry SP of 7/4F but a Betfair price of double that. I guess it just sometimes works that way.

The number of selections is still below our previous average of 22 per month but I am confident that will get back to that in the next few weeks. Once we start hitting days where we have more than one selection, I hope to see some rapid growth in our Banks.

Website

The website is now up to date (with the exception of the monthly return on our new Staking Plan, which is still being calculated) so please feel free to take a look. I have also (where possible) been adding a link for replays of our Selection’s races in case any Members wish to view them.

Useful Links

A lot of these have been mentioned in the Blog before, but for the benefit of our new Members you may wish to Bookmark/Register with these useful sites. They are all free.

http://www.attheraces.com/index.aspx – Lots of information and race replays

http://www.racinguk.com/page/Home – Replays of any races not covered by ATR

http://www.oddschecker.com/ – A great place for backers to compare bookmakers and exchanges odds at a glance on almost any event.

http://www.geekstoy.com/ – Free Trading Software which you download and link into your Betfair account. Is quicker than standard Betfair, gives 1 click greening up and much more.

Planet Football

Apart from 1 recommended pre-season bet, this service hasn’t ‘kicked off’ for this season but will do in the next couple of weeks when the majority of European Leagues have some tangible form. We have done this to avoid losing money on early season shocks, i.e. Spurs losing at home to Wigan, Real Madrid not beating Mallorca etc.

If any Members wish to subscribe to this FREE service, then please email me at : support@planet-horseracing.com and I will give you the details on how to get the Selections.

In the meantime, have a great week.

Martin”

Enjoy your weekend

Kind regards

Tony
