Comments on Racing Winners – Day 32
Thanks JR. Good to know as my reply from the author was contradictory. Makes good sense to avoid those with little form..
Did not finish comment, all the above are clarifications as far as I am aware with discussions between Sgt Thomas and the author to races that are ignored.
@MikeL
Amateur Races
Conditional Jockey & Apprentice Jockey – Apparently conditional is first step to qualifying as a jump jockey and apprentice the flat equivalent. (If nothing else I am learning more about racing off this system).
Novice Hurdle/Novice Chase & Beginner Hurdle/Beginner Chase – Novice purely means the horse has not won at that type of race before. I imagine we steer clear as the data available for the horses is poor, as no wins between the lot of them.
Nursery as far as I know if included. Nursery is just a term for 2yo handicap.
All the above are excluded.
Hi JR/Mike
I need to put belt and braces on these exclusions as I wrote to Mark about the novices/ apprentices etc and my reply was stick with exclusions on Amateur/Conditional. There are some things in the ebook which can be read two ways and I do accept that things move on. So to clarify all the above
Amateur… Conditional… Apprentice…Novice…Beginners… all excluded?
What about Nursery do you think?
Cheers
MikeL
Thanks Mike, for showing me where I was going wrong, appreciate it. No more Nov hcap races for me. Although I did luck out with Freedom Fire at Hereford 4.10, betfair odds of 18.5. A bet I wouldn’t have made if I understood the rules properly. Lady luck was smiling on me that day and so was I after sweating on the photo.
Thanks again and you as well Jr.
For the record, APPRENTICE races are also ignored. It is not explicitly stated, but still falls under the Amateur banner.
Hello
I quote an e-mail about the same NOVICE and BEGGINERS matter :
“The first race is a novice handicap & we don’t check the form on either a
novice or beginners jump race, due to lack of form & information. This
isn’t very clear on page 5 of Racing Winners, as it only says we bet on
Handicap races.”
Regards.
I’ve just looked at the betting rules for the system, and as far as I can see there’s nothing about not betting on Novice Hcaps. Amateur riders and conditional jocks yes, but nothing else. Unless I’m misunderstanding them in some way.
Mike
Agreed. The only reason I can see it is limited to 4 would be time, but if you have plenty of time I’d say there’s no reason not to analyse more and still go for the top 2. Time versus profit, I suppose.
It seems the way to go with this method is to put in the extra time /effort to analyse at least 4 races per day (if available)…and then select the likely best two.

The key word is NOVICE which means that the race will not be taken into account.
regards.
Hold on everyone. Which part of NOVICE Handicap would you have missed at the 4.10 Hereford!?
With respect, what was wrong with the 4.10 at Hereford then? As far as I can tell from looking at the betting rules you should have had a selection from there as well.
Hi Thomas
Agree entirely!
