REVIEW D G Tips Review Day 87

Sgt Mick Review

27thJanuary

Dear Member

No luck yesterday, we added two places with both Reckless Endeavour and Beepeecee finshing 3rd for each way returns but a small loss on the day. It happens we move on…

Reckless Endeavour ran very well for 3rd, for once Costello had him well placed but they didn’t go quick enough for him. He was closing quickly at the line and would of won in a few more strides.

Celtic Artisan was taken on for the lead by Kirby and in a way that ruined both our horses chances. Being taken on meant Celtic Artisan had nothing to give at the business end. Beepeecee ran well for 3rd but on the one occasion he jumped smartly this season he ended up tracking far too fast a pace. He tired late on into 3rd but the run was full of promise. (the irony is if he’d have fell out of the stalls like he usually does and been held up in last this race would have been perfect)

Onto today…

Lord Murphy ran a really good race for 3rd and each way returns. He was beaten two short heads in a bunch finish, he will be winning soon.

La Fortuna decided he didn’t fancy turning right today. The track turned right and he kept straight on, not entirely sure he was aided much by Luke Morris rousting him forward into the bend but not a lot we can do about this. He had the beating of both Silver Penny and Barnsdale so the fact they finished 1st and 3rd just shows we were on the right one. One for next time.

Two still to go, one at Kempton and one at Dundalk, let’s hope they perform well.

Tips for Saturday 27th January, 2018

3.10 Lingfield – Grand Inquisitor 7-1 widely available
0.5pts E/W Fin Unp -£10

I like Grand Inquisitor in here. He’s a quirky horse but when he hits form he can be very impressive. His win at York proved that and he returned to form last time out when arguably a little unlucky over this C and D. That confirmed he is in good heart and it is no surprise to me to see him turned out only a week after. He has a good draw in stall 6 and Donohoe keeps the ride, expect him to be held up and delivered late.

4.10 Cheltenham – Zaidiyn 11-1 widely available/Le Patriote 4-1 widely available
Both 0.5pts E/W Both finished  unplced -£20

I like two in here. Firstly Brian Ellison saddles Zaidiyn in here, he ran a really nice race at Wetherby last time out when he would have gone close but for a bad blunder two out. That was over 2m 4f’s however his best form has come over 2m’s on soft ground. He gets that tomorrow and brings a very solid level of form to the table (this horse finished just 6l’s down on Ch’tibello in Scottish Champion Hurdle two years back). He should be spot on for this race and his trainer knows the time of the day. He has pin-pointed a possible entry in the County Hurdle which gives some indication as to his claims tomorrow in a much easier race.

I also like Le Patriote, he ran a really good race in the Lanzarote on his first start in Britain. He only tired late on but travelled with real zest until the 2nd last. Dropping back to 2m’s on soft ground should be perfect and that is backed up by his form in France. He will improve for his recent run and the booking of Daryl Jacob is eye-catching given his form at this track this season.

7.45 Kempton – Shyron 5-1 widely available
0.5pts E/W Fin 3rd Return £10

I do like Dragon Mall in here but he’s short enough considering his draw and tendency to get outpaced. Instead at an each way price I like the chances of Shyron. He won two starts back and then ran a really nice race last time out for 4th. A form line through Swift Approval puts him closely matched with Dragon Mall however he has a better draw in stall 2 and should be better placed. Luke Morris also takes over in the saddle which is an eye-catching booking for this yard and I just hope I am correct in my thinking that Star Quality will put pressure on Swift Approval for the lead.

8.15 Kempton – Scottish Glen 20-1 widely available/In The Red 10-1 widely available
Both 0.5pts E/W Both finished unplaced -£20

Scottish Glen is very well handicapped and has good form over this C and D. He has been handed a bad draw but even with a good draw this horse needs holding up so it shouldn’t be an issue. The main thing this horse needs is a strong pace and with pace-setters Bristol Missile, In The Red, Golden Wedding and Bluff Crag all in the race that looks very likely. He shaped very well last time out and if he does get a race run to suit then he will be a big danger to all with a strong finish.

I also want In The Red on side in here. He has a very commanding C and D win to his name of 79 and also won at Goodwood last season of 80. Tomorrow he runs of 77 and has a great draw in stall 5, he ran way above his mark last time out at Lingfield so looks to be coming into this in cracking form. There is a key point here however and it is do with Kempton as a track. He has run three times around right handed turning tracks and his form figures read 1st, 1stand 1st. He quite clearly relishes running around a right-handed bend and his win here was very impressive. If he can just sit in behind the pace and quicken when it starts collapsing, then he should in theory be best placed to take advantage. Also worth noting is that Timmy Murphy gets on board for only the 2nd time in this horses career. The first time he rode him he won over this C and D by nearly 3l’s so it does seem significant.
A poor day by normal standards but no one is perfect, losing days are part of the game.  6 selections today but only 4 races  involved as there were 2 selections in 2 of the races. Total stakes £60 Returns £10 so a loss of £50.
