Shady McCoy was given a very poor ride last night. Quite clearly on the right horse we just didn’t get the ride to match.

Samphire Coast ran a huge race for 2nd at 14s. The winner got first run and won the race impressively but Samphire Coast ran on really well and put 3l’s between him and the chasing pack. One to keep on side.

Verdana Blue put in an excellent performance. She was hampered badly early but that didn’t stop her clearing away in impressive fashion.

Two still to go at Newcastle in the same race, one has been typically well backed and the other has drifted surprisingly. Hopefully both run very well.

Russe Blanc is dour stayer who will love conditions tomorrow. He is back down to his last winning mark and the booking of champ Richard Johnson really catches the eye. He carries bottom weight in here which over such a stamina sapping trip can hardly be a bad thing. He has had a reappearance which is always a nice angle coming into these types of races. That will have put him spot on for this and Kerry Lee knows how to train a staying chaser. She will have him primed and ready.

Chelwood Gate looks worth chancing in here. The facts are he is extremely well handicapped at present and although he is on a long losing run there has been glimmers of hope recently of higher marks. He always seems to go well at this track and from stall 4 he should get the perfect tow into this. Conor Dore has had a few winners recently and Chelwood Gate may go close to adding to that.

Lucky Di is down to a very workable mark and put in a pleasing performance last time out at Kempton. She was drawn widest of all, was forced to be held up but travelled into the race very strongly before quickening nicely into 3rd. Down another 1lb and from a much better draw tomorrow she should put in a big performance.

We put up Annie Salts last time out and after a big gamble she was slow away and given a poor ride by Nicola. I rate Currie as a jockey and I am willing to give her another chance on this well handicapped horse. She once again has a nice draw in stall 2 and has been dropped another 2lb by the handicapper. Blazed obviously has strong claims however from a price point of view I would rather side with Annie Salts.

There appears to be a lack of pace in here and that may play into the hands of Lydiate Lady. She was involved in a pace dual over this C and D last time out and that set the race up for finishers. Still she ran on gamely to finish 4th and of the horses in the front three she won the battle with ease despite being three wide the whole way around. An easy lead looks more likely tomorrow and from stall 7 providing a good start she should be able cross over and take that position up. We have seen on turf she is dangerous when left alone up front and that could easily be the story tomorrow.
