Hi Bloggers
Well, two selections today to start off the weekend:
Goodwood 16:05 – Kathleen Frances
Mark Thompkins’ filly bids for a hat trick today and is forecast favourite. There are, however, several negatives that mean we can look to oppose her. Upped in Class today, she takes on proven performers at this level. Untried at Goodwood, her 2 wins have come at Yarmouth’s galloping track so it is unknown if she’ll enjoy this sharp course. She clearly handles Good going but is untried on today’s Good to Soft surface so suitability is unknown. Trainer has had just 1 win from 18 attempts in this age group at the course in the last 5 years. Looks an open contest.
Goodwood 17:15 – Nationalism
Nice looking sort from John Gosden’s yard makes his handicap debut and is likely favourite following win at Sandown in July. However, with quite a few negatives, we can look to take him on. Today’s race represents a significant step up in Class vs several rivals that are proven in this grade. His runs to date have been very respectable but they have been on galloping tracks on a Good to Firm surface with two 2nds at 10f and a win at 8f. Today’s race is on Goodwood’s sharp track on a Good to Soft surface over 9 furlongs. He will therefore have several question marks to overcome. Trainer has a respectable strike rate here but jockey rides for the first time. It’s always a small concern when taking on horses that are making their handicap debut especially with the make up of the Selection. However, with so many negatives and a competitive looking field, we recommend a lay bet.
Well, a bit of a shock to the bank, as BOTH selections won.
Kathleen Frances was first of the eleven runners at a Betfair SP of 7.80 (ISP 6/1). That gave us a loss of -£272.00 or -6.80 points at level stakes.
Nationalism also came in first of the nine runners at a Betfair SP of 3.30 (ISP 2/1). That gave us a loss of -£92.00 or -2.30 points at level stakes.
The combined loss for the day amounted to -£364.00 or -9.10 points at level stakes. Our cumulative bank now stands at £1,652.00 giving us a loss to date of -£348.00 or – 8.70 points at level stakes.
Until tomorrow
Kind regards
Tony
