Hardcourt Heroes – January 17

Hi Bloggers,

A win and 2 losses for the regular bets yesterday for a loss of around 1.4 points.

We also lost the Bet of the Day as Portland came out flat and fell behind 17 to Cleveland at halftime. To their credit, they battled all the way back to take a 1 point lead with 2 minutes to go, but couldn’t close it out and ended up losing by 5.

Portland looked a bit tired after their tough overtime loss to Denver the night before and I had considered that possibility, but as they are a young energetic team I figured they’d have enough left in the tank to win at home against one of the worst teams in the league.

That was a mistake on my part and obviously I would have been better off going with well rested Oklahoma City. Fortunately I rarely make such mistakes with the Bet of the Day, as that was just the second loss in 12 bets to end a 10 game winning streak since I started testing, and I’m confident another long winning streak is just around the corner.

There are just 4 games on the schedule today and headlining the action is New York and Detroit doing battle in London’s O2 Arena. While I expect New York will probably win, it’s hard to say how focused the teams will be with the potential distractions of such a trip, so we won’t have a bet on that one.

In fact we have just one bet today, which is also strong enough to qualify for the Bet of the Day.
